It’s normal and healthy to question where you are in life and what you should be doing. When you are questioning where your life is going and what you should be doing, try out these tips to help yourself…
- Brainstorm Life Goals. To understand where your life is and where you want it to be, you need to process what you want. Try taking twenty minutes to write down your life goals. Then evaluate them and contemplate whether your current path is going to help you achieve those goals.
- Adjust. When you evaluated your goals, did your current path line up well? If not, what will lead you to these goals? Is it changing your job? Is it getting out of a current relationship? Question what is blocking you and consider how you can adjust these blockages.
- Talk to Others. It is normal to feel overwhelmed when thinking about what you want out of life. I mean it’s a pretty major thing to be processing. For most people, it is easier to process with others. So consider talking to someone about how you can achieve your goals. A friend, parent, significant other, counselor/therapist, coach, mentor, boss, religious figure. Whoever!
- Action Plan. Once you’ve completed the above tips, come up with realistic and achievable steps to get you where you want to be. Do you want to totally change careers? Research what you need to do get there and base your action plan off of those steps. Do you want to travel more? Set up a travel savings account and decide how much you want to put in it each month. Whatever your goals, set up your realistic steps and a timeline for each. Put them on your calendar and set a reminder to do it. Then get after it!
Implement. You have your action plan, now use it! Adjust it as you need, but half the battle is just getting started and making a plan to do it.
